Few Shortages

For few linguists, they agree that few non-native English speakers suffer from linguistic deficit. Hence, this is quite strong accusation by simply putting those non-native speakers are linguistic deficit. In fact, linguistic deficit does exist but the unfairness to accuse non-native English speakers suffer linguistic deficit. In fact, it shows inequality to blow the whistle to the school system in discouraging students using the standard language. According to Cambridge Online Dictionary, the “standard language” refers to the same dialect, grammar, and the pronunciation. This clearly shows that, it is unjust for everyone to blame the school system.

Literally, it is also quite arbitrary to say that the non-native English speakers suffering the linguistic deficit. In possessing fluency of English language it does take time and it is part of the growth. In the other word is natural of human growth and normal.

For some irrational reasons could say that, they who suffer of linguistic deficit are because of lacking few criteria while speaking in English language. Those shortage are deficiency in content of the message while speaking, few defects in fluency, flaws in speaking formal language, and the infirmity of grammatical and vocabularies while speak in English language.

What we can observe for the non-native English speaker, by having the presentation in class. Undeniably for most of the non-native English speaker have problems with vocabularies and grammar while speaking. There must be few shortages and flaws while the non-native English speaker, speaks in English. For instance, a person can speaks English language and deliver bunch of content in a message. However, he or she probably has problems in speaking English language fluently. Either the non-native English speaker can speak very fluently, by having too little content to deliver or the non-native English speaker has the good English Grammar, but still facing problems with content of delivering the message clearly.

Yet still the non-native English speaker is trying as best as they can to reach the level whereby the Standard English language is being used. After all, blaming the school system in discouraging students using the Standard English language while speaking or even writing is highly unacceptable.

As we can say, all the flaws faced by the non-native English speaker while speaking English language or writing is influenced from the surrounding of one’s growth. For example, it is natural for a Germany to frequently pause while speaking in English. This is due to the fact that, a Germans is being raised by not speaking in English. In fact, every 20 miles in a region, the dialect could change. Even in Malaysia, we have hundreds of dialects that possessing one’s growth.

Moreover, the school system that we have now is highly encouraging all the teachers to teach students speaking in Standard English language. This is because the English language has been the international lingua franca. As the statistics shown in A Shite History Of Nearly Everything (2005), there are 115 countries using English Language as official language, and approximately there are 322 to 372 Million of native English Language speakers.  Undeniably, few other countries which using other language as official language such as China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Japan, and Spain will bite the bullet of having difficulties when it comes to speak Standard English language.

The school system in this epoch is teaching the very basic grammar to moderate English grammar, the correct English pronunciation for few English words that are being used, and the absolute fact that the school does encourage students to widen their vocabularies as it helps them to speak English fluently. Those flaws are simply helped by the school system, and again it is unjust to say the non-native speakers are suffering from linguistic deficit as they are trying very hard to speak the Standard English language, and being helped by the school.

On the other way around, even the native English speakers are sometimes facing the problem in delivering a message with full of content. So, we cannot say this is the school system’s fault. As for those non-native English speakers still need to realize and stand firm to cultivate their English Language in the aspect of grammar and vocabularies, accent and dialect, message content, and pronunciation. As one of the famous Austrian-British philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951) said “The limits of my language are the limits of my mind. All I know is what I have words for.”
